Wendy - what a true "Legend"

On Monday, whilst taking an unexpected tour around the town of Beaufort West, Thopps (our guide and one of the teachers for the day) ran across the dirt track road and up to a small bungalow on the other side of the street. A moment later, upon his return, Thopps told us to "come on in" and we were welcomed into a beautifully kept garden by Wendy; writer and director, she told us her story and took us into her home with unrivalled generosity and selflessness.
This small woman informed us of her suffering a brain tumour in 1994: having been told she had only 3 months to live, Wendy started to write short stories and poems. "I'm a storyteller," she told us, "and that's all I want to be." Following a risky 10-hour operation Wendy was cured and, though she is now partially deaf and blind, going strong.
It was truly incredible to be thrust into this woman's house and introduced into her interesting, vibrant and varied world as she writes on commission and rehearses for the next local production. Her passion shone through and it was truly inspiring to speak to her and to visit her beautiful home.
